Nicolas Hopkin is a dancer, choreographer, actor, and film artist originally from Flat Rock, North Carolina, now residing in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program with a concentration in Modern Dance in 2017, notably having worked with Juel D. Lane, The Taylor 2 Company, as well as performing in UNCSA’s restaging of SOLO OLOS, the conservatory’s first performance of a Trisha Brown work. In 2021 Nicolas graduated with a dual degree in Dance (BFA) and Film Production (BA) from the University of Michigan In 2021, performing works by Ohad Naharin, Jawole Jowilla Jo Zollar, Shannon Gillen, and Rosie Herrera. Nicolas has recently collaborated again with Rosie Herrera Dance Theater, appearing as a guest artist in their spring 2020 tour. As a choreographer and video artist, Nicolas aims to combine the physicality of his dance with a dynamic cinematographic eye, creating sharp, unconventional, and devilishly funny works. In 2021 he won Best Comedy in the University of Michigan LIGHTWORKS Student Film Festival for his contributions to I Hope This Comedy Show Finds You Well. The same year he completed "Backing the Winner," a dance film surrounding topics of loneliness, impotence, and regret. It was an online selection for the Austin Liftoff Film Festival. In 2021-2022 he performed with Bauztanzt HERE as a guest artist in the Archs & Textures DWTN project, and is currently in the research process for an evening length work of his own creation.
